In both the U.S. and Canada, safety officers may request to see your driver logs during roadside inspections. EROAD Drive provides a Roadside Inspection mode for this purpose. You cannot edit logs during this process.
Start Roadside Inspection
1 On the Dashboard, tap Logs > View Logs.
2. On the Driver Logs screen, tap Roadside Inspection.
The Roadside Inspection screen displays.
3. Pass the mobile device to the safety officer.
Roadside Inspection mode enables just the ELD features and displays only the data fields required by the applicable ELD mandate (U.S. or Canada) and triggers a Begin Roadside Inspection event in your log. In addition, EROAD Drive notifies the back office that an inspection has begun.
The safety officer examines the data and can look at particular logs by tapping Previous and Next. In the U.S., FMCSA officers can look at the current and previous six days. In Canada, CCMTA officers can look at the current and previous 13 days.
The safety officer can tap Unidentified to check on unidentified driving records, if any, and DVIR, to check on the defect history.
Transfer Data
When a safety officer completes an inspection, they can tap Data transfer to electronically send all available driver logs to their regulatory agency (FMCSA or CCMTA) for further analysis. Data transfer requires cellular service. If there is no service, files are stored and sent when service returns.
In the U.S., the safety officer chooses Web Service or Email, enters a comment for the output file, and then taps Send. EROAD Drive generates and sends an encrypted log data export file to the FMSCA. The destination address for the FMCSA is configured into Drive ELD.
In Canada, the safety officer enters the email address and a comment for the output file, and then taps Send. EROAD Drive generates and sends CSV and PDF files of the logs to the specified email address.
Complete Roadside Inspection
After data transfer, EROAD Drive returns to the Roadside Inspection screen. When the safety officer completes the inspection and returns the device to you, tap End inspection to end Roadside Inspection mode. This triggers an End Roadside Inspection event in your log. In addition, EROAD Drive notifies the back office that the inspection ended and prompts you to enter your driver PIN to return to the Driver Logs screen.
