Getting Started With Clarity Edge

A quick start guide for drivers

Updated over a week ago

The Clarity Edge dashcam turns on when you start the ignition. You know your dashcam is functioning normally when the green Power icon is lit and steady, as shown in the following image.

After turning on the engine, the power LED should light within a minute. If not, call your company to report and resolve.

The dashcam may be configured to record driver-facing video as well as road-facing video. Contact your supervisor if you have questions about your configuration.

Video Recording and Video Upload: Viewable Video Footage

Clarity Edge continuously records when the ignition is on. The recorded footage held within the dashcam’s memory card is encrypted. Footage is only viewable via short video clips after they upload to the EROAD 360 platform used by administrators in your home office.

The following types of video clips upload to EROAD 360:

  • Harsh events: Harsh breaking, harsh acceleration, and harsh cornering. These video clips are automatically triggered and uploaded.

  • AI events: These video clips are automatically triggered and uploaded based on artificial intelligence (AI) detection and analysis. AI observes events on the road and also within the vehicle cab (if the driver-facing camera is activated) and recognizes visual cues that could indicate hazardous driving, fatigue, and more. Your company enables which events the AI observes; talk to your supervisor if you have questions.

AI Category

Examples

Notes

Road AI

Following too close, pedestrian collision/near miss, vehicle collision/near miss, speed-sign violation, stop-sign violation

These events are always observed by the main dashcam road-facing camera.

Driver AI

Mobile phone usage, seat belt unfastened, smoking, drinking, distraction (detect driver looking away from the road)

These events are observed by the main dashcam driver-facing camera or the optional fatigue camera.**

Fatigue AI

Yawning, frequent blinking, continuous eye closure greater than two seconds, distraction, ability to see through sunglasses.

These events are observed by the optional fatigue camera, which uses enhanced fatigue-detecting AI.**

** The optional fatigue camera takes over observing distraction and yawning events from the Clarity Edge main camera. The fatigue camera can detect blinking/eye closure through sunglasses.

  • Driver-initiated events: You can manually trigger video upload for events you encounter on the road.

  • Requested events: Supervisors can request video uploads for particular times and locations. They might do this if you didn’t get a chance to manually trigger a video upload.

Manually Trigger a Video Upload

While driving, you may be involved in an accident or other event that you want to upload to the home office as a record of the event. To upload/save driving events, press the dashcam's manual trigger button or the remote trigger button, if installed.

The dashcam chimes to confirm that it is uploading a 20-second video clip to EROAD 360. The clip contains the ten seconds before and the ten seconds after you press the button.

Note: Video clips upload automatically during harsh braking, harsh acceleration, and harsh cornering events. There’s no need to press the button for these events.

If you don’t capture an event in time or aren’t sure you captured an entire event, notify your supervisor as soon as possible with the event’s time and location. The supervisor can request the video.

Red: Video is not recording, most likely due to a memory card fault. (If lit, contact your supervisor.)

Maintenance

  • Clean the dashcam lens with a soft cloth. Never use sprays or fluids.

  • Do not adjust or remove a dashcam or its wiring. Alert your supervisor if the dashcam needs adjustment, repair, or replacement.

  • Dashcam placement must comply with regulations. If a dashcam detaches from the windshield, follow your company’s policies related to re-mounting.

Additional Information

  • Remember to cover the road-facing lens with the lens cap when passing through sensitive areas—such as military bases—as defined by your organization or local regulations. Remove the cap when you exit the area.

  • The dashcam does not provide a live feed of you while driving. However, authorized personnel can request video clips of any time segment.
